We recently submitted our recommendations to the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) regarding the budget request — known as a Legislative Appropriations Request (LAR) — that the agency is preparing to submit to state lawmakers.
Our comments included the following four recommendations:
Increased funding to strengthen and expand the Texas AIM initiative to prevent maternal illness and death
Funding efforts to combat the unprecedented spread of congenital syphilis in Texas
Restored funding to HPV prevention efforts to prevent cervical and other cancers among Texas women
Sustaining transparency in the continued work and data needs of the Maternal Morbidity & Mortality Review Committee (MMMRC) to strengthen the maternal health systems in Texas
